What is the Piso Test?

The Piso Test is a simple technique that allows you to check your tire tread’s integrity. It’s the Filipino version of the penny test used by Americans. But instead of the US 25 cent penny, you’ll have to make do with the Pinoy 1 peso coin.

How to Do the Piso Test?

By doing the Piso Test, you can easily see if your tire treads are worn out or not. This allows you to have your tires replaced, ensuring your safety on the road and prolonging your car’s life. If you haven’t done it before, check the three steps below:

1. Get a 1 peso coin. You can use either the old coin or the newer version.
2. Insert the penny into the tire treads. Make sure the coin is upright, with the base in the grooves.
3. Check how deep the coin goes in the grooves. This will indicate the status of your tire’s treads.

How deep the 1 peso penny goes will show how healthy (or worn-out) your car’s tires are. Now since the old and new 1 peso coins are different in size and design, their results will vary slightly.

• For the old 1 peso coin, the grooves must cover the year on the bottom of the coin.
• For the new 1 peso coin, the grooves must cover Rizal’s name as well as his necktie.

If your tires pass the Piso Test, then you can rest easy for a while. But in case they fail with either (or both) coin, then it’s time to have them replaced.

Inspect Your Tires Treads Regularly

Make it a point to do the Piso Test on a regular basis. At least once a month will do. That way, you can ensure your safety on the road as well as prolong your beloved car’s life.
